THE KRUMP

Krump is an intense and committed dance of expression, born in complex social contexts and which has become, over time, a true body language and cultural language.

Krump is a dance style that emerged in the early 2000s in working-class neighborhoods of Los Angeles. It developed in contexts marked by violence, marginalization, and a lack of spaces for youth expression.

Originally, the first dancers saw Krump as a constructive alternative to gang life, a way to express raw emotions powerfully but non-violently. This dance quickly became a body language in its own right, allowing anger, pain, frustration, or joy to be transformed into creative energy.

Krump is a high-intensity dance that demands strength, power, and control. The movements are expansive, dynamic, and committed, engaging both body and mind. Facial expressions and the energy displayed can sometimes be perceived as aggression or rage, but they primarily convey passion, commitment, and a strong emotional presence.

This is a freestyle dance. Dancers spontaneously create from numerous codified basic movements and elements, often through an alter ego or character. This freedom of expression allows each person to develop their own body language, while respecting the foundations of the culture.

Over time, Krump has established itself as much more than just a dance style. It constitutes a culture in its own right, with its own basic movements, music, terminology, and spaces for transmission. Gatherings take various forms, such as battles, sessions, performances, or labs, which are dedicated times for practice and exploration.

Today, Krump is practiced in many countries, including Switzerland. While social contexts differ, the needs remain similar: to have safe spaces to express oneself freely, to reconnect with oneself and others, to strengthen self-confidence and social bonds.

At INFINITE FAM, Krump is viewed as a tool for expression, connection, and personal development. It is taught in a structured, respectful, and supportive environment, accessible to all, regardless of background or skill level.

For those who wish to discover Krump through images and better understand its codes, formats, and energy, battles and events are regularly documented and broadcast online. You can also visit the links below:
